Southie getting big complex

New architectural renderings were released yesterday for a six-block, mixed-use South Boston development now being called Washington Village.
Boston developer Core Investments Inc. and real estate investment firm Ad Meliora LLCs project, slightly revised under more extensive plans filed with the Boston Redevelopment Authority, calls for 656 residential units in eight buildings, with about 98,600 square feet of ground-floor retail space on a 4.89-acre site near Andrew Square.
The redevelopment will transform the mostly decrepit and impervious site into a mix of modern buildings, plazas, streets and green spaces, Core Investments said in its BRA filing. The nature of the project will improve the quality of life for existing residents by providing a variety of neighborhood retail stores and a range of complementary housing options.
The housing units would be mostly apartments, including units aimed at middle class tenants, with some condos. The development also would include about 560 parking spaces and 42,500 square feet of open space. A small grocery store, pharmacy, restaurants and other convenience services are among the potential retail tenants targeted.
