A tale of two inns, three centuries of history

One inn became the inspiration for Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The other was frequented by Henry David Thoreau. One inn is rumored to have a ghost in rooms 9 and 10. The other reports paranormal experiences in Room 24.

But outside both inns are signs bearing the same year: 1716.

As Longfellow’s Wayside Inn in Sudbury and Concord’s Colonial Inn both turn 300 years old next year, each is marking the milestone in various ways.

Both inns are digging up menus from the past so they can serve old-fashioned meals. But they also have an eye on the future, as they retool menus and spruce up accommodations for the contemporary diner and traveler.
