Police department is first in state to make body cameras mandatory
UPDATED 12:51 PM EDT Oct 26, 2015

ERVING, Mass. —A police department in a small Massachusetts town is joining the growing contingent of law enforcement agencies across the country making body cameras mandatory for all officers.

The Republican newspaper reports that Erving's five full-time and five part-time officers began wearing the cameras Monday.

Chief Christopher Blair says he thinks his department is the first in the state to make the cameras mandatory for all officers. Some Massachusetts departments have used them on a trial basis.

He says it's easier for small departments to implement new initiatives like the cameras.
