MGM execs to hold casino talks with Springfield leaders
Associated Press Thursday, October 29, 2015
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Top executives of MGM Resorts International will be in Springfield to explain changes the company is making in its resort casino development.
Mayor Domenic Sarno asked for Thursday's meeting after MGM revealed that it was reducing the scope of the $800 million project by nearly 14 percent. Sarno complained that he and other city officials had not been consulted in advance about the changes which were included in a filing with a state agency.
MGM had earlier announced plans to eliminate a hotel tower. But the Las Vegas-based company says it remains committed to the casino which it hopes to open in 2018.
MGM chief executive James Murren, company president William Hornbuckle and MGM Springfield president Michael Mathis are expected to attend Thursday's meeting with Sarno at City Hall.
