146 arrested in Lawrence area crime investigation

Fugitives and gang members wanted for murder, rape and drug dealing were rounded up in a five-month operation led by a federal task force that the U.S. Attorney's Office said Friday netted 146 suspects.

"Operation Triple Beam" was carried out in and around Lawrence, according to U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling's office.

The operation kicked off Jan. 1 and 146 people were arrested, including dozens of fugitives and 52 alleged gang members, officials said.

"Operation Triple Beam is a nationwide initiative in which federal resources are deployed to help state and local law enforcement round up dangerous fugitives living in our most vulnerable communities," said Lelling.
