3 take plea deals following arrest of Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia in alleged extortion and bribery scandal
Jasiel Correia, the two-term mayor of Fall River running for re-election, was arrested at his home Friday morning on allegations of extorting hundreds of thousands of dollars from people seeking to do business in the Massachusetts marijuana industry. This is his second arrest by FBI agents in the past year.
Correias former chief of staff, Genoveva Andrade, was also taken into custody Friday by federal authorities on extortion and bribery charges.
Three connected to the mayor accepted plea deals with the U.S. Attorneys Office.
Hildegar Camara, Antonio Costa and David Hebert entered into plea agreements with federal authorities, federal documents obtained by MassLive show.
