When I lived in Waltham, I was an elected member of my local ward committee and served for a time as Ward Chair. In 2002 I sold my house in Waltham and moved to Greenfield. After I moved in, I tried to contact the Greenfield Town Committee about getting involved, but I never heard back.
I got my Primary ballot yesterday. Along with the President, other offices on the ballot are Democrat State Committee and the Greenfield Democratic Town Committee. For the Town Committee, the instructions on the ballot read, "Vote for no more than Thirty-Five." I counted, 32 names on the ballot. It appears that the Committee has some vacancies, which they should be happy to fill. I have made a few friends in my condo complex and have served for over 1 year on the condo association Board. So, I'm launching a write-in campaign for the Committee. I understand that a write-in running essentially unopposed, needs a minimum of five votes to be elected. I'm pretty sure I can dig up at least five votes by the election day.
But wait, there's more.
The ballot for State Committee is divided along gender lines. By charter, we can have one man and one woman. We are not allowed to have two of either. Greenfield has no nominated candidates for either the Man's seat or the Woman's. So, to make a long story shorter, I'm running for that office, as well. PM me if you want more info.

(2,253 posts)The condo board's annual meeting is this afternoon, so I'm pretty sure I can pick up enough votes there to pass the minimum threshold.

(2,253 posts)I picked up a half dozen votes at the condo meeting yesterday, and three friends offered to spread the word among their friends and family in town. This is great, because they have lived in the area far longer than I have, and thus have larger local networks. I am hopeful.
