Two Democrats compete for empty Ypsilanti Township clerk seat

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI - Two Democrats will compete for Ypsilanti Township Clerk.

Debbie Swanson – a current trustee – and Christian Benitez – an election specialist in the Ypsilanti Township Clerk’s Office – will face off in the Democratic primary on Aug. 6.

Swanson was elected as an Ypsilanti Township Trustee in 2020. She previously also served as a Parks Commissioner for the township.

Current Ypsilanti Township Clerk Heather Jarrell Roe did not file to run for reelection.

The winner of the primary is slated to go unchallenged in the general election.
