Bullock Creek school millage on Aug. 6 ballot

A 10-year renewal of the operating millage for Bullock Creek School District is coming up on the Aug. 6 ballot.

If approved by voters, the millage would renew the levy of 18 mills on non-homestead properties that was approved in 2014, and would generate $1.2 million of annual funding.

"I’m real optimistic our community will support that," Bullock Creek Superintendent Shawn Hale said. "We’re reaching out to our community now because it’s an election year and there’s no cost for us to run the election this year in August or November. If for some reason it does not pass in August, that gives us the ability to put it on the ballot in November."

Looking at staffing challenges for the district, Hale said that in order to fill open positions, Bullock Creek would consider retired teachers who are interested in returning to the profession.
