Roads and non-motorized millage renewal in Washtenaw County on August ballot

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI -- A millage that expired at the end of last year that funds roads and non-motorized trails in Washtenaw County is up for renewal in August.

Voters are being asked in the Aug. 6 primary to consider a four-year renewal of the tax that would generate nearly $11 million yearly for improvement and maintenance projects at the county and municipality levels.

The 0.5-mill-tax was first approved in 2016 and, if renewed, would be levied in each winter tax bill in 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028.

Of the funds generated by the millage, nearly $5 million would go to the Washtenaw County Road Commission for projects in the county’s 20 different townships. Another $3.8 million would be divided between cities in the county based on how much is collected within their borders.
