Every voter in Kalamazoo County has at least one tax decision to make on Aug. 6

Early voting is underway and the polls close in one week for Kalamazoo County voters in the state primary election on Aug. 6.

All voters have a countywide millage renewal on their ballot, and some of you will decide on fire department, library, or schools funding as well. All of these are millage renewals — which means your tax rates for these services will not increase if the millages are approved. (We’ve got details for you below.)

The election is an open primary, which means voters will have lists of both Republican and Democratic parties candidates vying for the respective nominations in the Nov. 5 general election.

But wait! You can only vote in one or the other party’s primary. If you pick and choose between parties — even in different races — your ballot will be tossed out. Voters do not need to be registered with a specific party.
