Mushatt leads in Ward 7 Flint City Council election but city clerk says absentee votes not yet counted

FLINT, MI -- Residents who voted on Tuesday, Aug. 6, in the special election to represent Ward 7 on the Flint City Council chose Candice Mushatt for the position, but City Clerk Davina Donahue said absentee ballots still have not been counted in the race.

Unofficial results from the Genesee County Clerk’s Office showed Mushatt with 416 votes with four of four precincts counted and challenger JanMarie Arbor with 361 votes.

The winner of the race earns the right to complete the term of Allie Herkenroder, who resigned from her position in June 2023.

Mushatt had been appointed by other council members to fill the vacancy until a special election could be scheduled.
