Genesee County ballot issues appear headed for victory in primary election

GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- Countywide ballot proposals on Tuesday’s Aug. 6 primary ballot were fairing well with results incomplete as of 2 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

With 108 or 156 precincts reporting, most voters had approved a proposed $3 per-line telephone surcharge to support the county 911 system, renewal of 0.68-mill property tax for senior citizen services, and the reauthorization of a 1.2-mill property tax for the Mass Transportation Authority to support Your Ride services.

The county Board of Commissioners voted in May to add the 911 surcharge to the primary ballot, asking to increase the rate from $1.86 per line to $3, the maximum allowed by state law.

The ballot proposal was supported by 59% of voters in the 108 precincts that had been counted as of early Wednesday.
