Voters make history in electing Jackson County's first female prosecuting attorney (D)

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Jackson County voters made their voices heard Tuesday - and made history - in electing the county’s top arbiter of law.

In a close race, with election results swaying back and forth throughout the night, Kelsey Guernsey defeated Republican challenger Jared Hopkins 8,975 to 6,991 in the Aug. 6 primary election.

As there are no challengers running on the Democratic side, Guernsey will move on unopposed to the Nov. 5 general election ballot, effectively securing her victory as Jackson County’s next prosecutor.

After the November election, Guernsey will become the first woman to become prosecutor in Jackson County.
