How 2 state House races in Macomb Co. could decide legislative cont
Two Democratic state representatives in Macomb County are facing competitive races this fall that could be affected by former Republican President Donald Trump's sway over the county, possibly determining what party controls the Michigan House of Representatives.
Chippewa Valley school board member Robert Wojtowicz, a Republican, is running against state Rep. Denise Mentzer, D-Mount Clemens, in the 61st district, which includes Mount Clemens, much of Clinton Township and some of Sterling Heights.
Over in the 58th District, Republican Utica City Council member Ron Robinson is trying to oust state Rep. Nate Shannon, D-Sterling Heights. The district includes Utica and some of Sterling Heights, as well as parts of Shelby Township and Warren.
Macomb County is one of the areas that Michigan Republicans are targeting to flip seats as they try to regain control of the state's House of Representatives, which Democrats now narrowly control with a 56-54 majority. Democrats won control of both chambers in 2022.
