How to rent an accessible vehicle for $1 on Election Day

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A West Michigan company is working to make in-person voting accessible for everyone.

The Creative Mobility Group, which has locations in the Detroit, Flint and Grand Rapids areas, sells, rents and services wheelchair-accessible vehicles and modifies cars to accommodate drivers and passengers with disabilities. The company is launching a new initiative called Roll to the Polls.

“We believe that voting is a fundamental right for all citizens and that transportation should never be a barrier or reason why you weren’t able to vote,” marketing director Tommy Stowers said.

To make that possible, the company is offering $1 wheelchair-accessible van rentals on Election Day for people who need an accessible vehicle to get to their polling location and cast their vote. Vehicles can be rented for a four-hour time block in the morning or afternoon on Nov. 5 and can be driven up to 50 miles at the $1 price point.
