Michigan statewide early voting starts Oct. 26: Where to vote near you

Starting Saturday, registered voters across Michigan will have the chance to vote early ahead of the Nov. 5 election, giving them the option to cast their ballot without having to wait until Election Day.

In most of the state, Oct. 26 marks the start of early, in-person voting in Michigan. After voters passed a ballot initiative in 2022, municipalities in Michigan are required to hold at least nine days of early voting for each statewide and federal election, with early voting locations mandated to remain open for at least eight hours on those days. Some communities, including Detroit, opted to start even earlier.

Early voting for communities that didn't start sooner begins Saturday and runs until Nov. 3. To find hours and locations for early voting centers in your community, visit the online Michigan Voter Information Center at michigan.gov/vote and click on "How do I vote early?" underneath the section titled "Vote in person."

Three communities — Detroit, East Lansing and Canton Township — had opted to hold early voting before Saturday. Communities can hold up to 28 days of early voting, if local election officials opt to add more dates. As of Friday morning, 10,983 voters had cast a ballot at an early voting location for the Nov. 5 election, according to data made available by the Michigan Secretary of State. The bulk of early votes cast so far have been in Detroit, data shows, with 7,996 cast in Michigan's most-populous city as of Friday morning.
