Related: About this forumGot my first deer of the year and never fired a shot.
Fresh road kill, less than a mile from my house on my street. Still warm and not mangled.
Last year I got two on the same stretch of road.
I go to deer camp every year but rarely shoot one. I only take sure shots. I dont care about how many points. I only hunt for the meat. Last year I got 2 small year and a half bucks. This year it has been a fat, very fat 2 1/2 year old doe.
Last year I called the DNR for a salvage tag and they thanked me for picking them up and using the meat.
This year Im getting them processed and not doing it myself. Its a lot of work and Im getting older. Steaks off the top and the rest burger. Thats about the only red meat I eat. So itll cost me $100 for about 30-40 pounds of meat. Venison bought at a store runs $17/pond and up. If you can find it.
I dont hunt or fish for sport, only for food.

(24,085 posts)and get the deer. We have tons of deer out there (behind a state park) so there's lots of deer and one must be careful in driving up and down the 2-lane highway to avoid hitting a deer.
Enjoy.

(34,068 posts)Wont have to pay a deductible. Ive found flashing your bright lights works better than the horn. If you see one crossing in front of you, good chance more will be following.
