Censured GOP Royal Oak City Commissioner Kim Gibbs caught shoplifting

Censured Royal Oak City Commissioner Kim Gibbs has found herself in the news again, this time for being caught shoplifting.

The embattled elected official issued a statement Wednesday evening on the misdemeanor shoplifting offense.

"I would like to apologize to my family, friends and especially my constituents for my substantial lapse in judgement today, Wednesday, May 6. A combination of many external factors led to my poor judgement. The economic impact of the COVID-19 statewide lockdown has taken a serious toll on me personally," she said.

"I obviously was not thinking clearly, and I take full responsibility for my actions. Recently, I had to choose between insulin and food, and I chose the insulin, which helps me stay alive.

"Recent threats and harassment along with censure in Royal Oak for my attendance at 'Operation Gridlock' and a lack of sleep have resulted in my mistake. Thanks to the support of family and friends, I am now seeking treatment from medical professionals to ensure I never make a mistake like this again."

Only spend eight years working Retail in a Big Box Store with these Self Serv Theft Machines. Company policy as to theft amount prevented anyone assigned to the Self Check or else where for that matter, from confronting and holding the Perp until Police could be called.

Watched people do the no scan trick time and time again. Most times when caught they will make some silly ass excuse why they put the item in the bag without scanning. And scan the item and apologize. BTW,there is always a video tape that does not lie. But,we had our regulars of a certain Religious Group who prided themselves on trying not to get caught. When they touched that .38 in their waist band, there is no friggin way I was about to push the issue.

So if this person was caught skipping with a Hundred bucks worth of Groceries, well Kiddies this was not her first Rodeo. She has worked the system to the tune of thousands.

Retail fact when scanner self Check outs are used. Store Inventory Shrink expands by 2% and normal excepted shrink is just under 2%. And as a result of Self Check, all prices are raised to cover this extra 2%.

might do the trick if it tells the potential scan trickster that they are actually paying more for their other items because of what they are doing.
But it probably won't.
But it might make other customers notice this behavior and report them.

that only has truth for those with a conscience . Retail studies have proven that. Target Stores were the first to use Self Check and tested it in the Twin Cities before National roll out. BTW,Target Stores was the first to pull those Self Checks because of Shrinkage. And now Target has these back in service. But,did you notice the overall price increases.

But I haven't had the urge to go shoplifting. Mostly, I have urges to take longer naps.
