Why isn't Whitmer shutting everything down?

Michigan is fast approaching record cases and record hospitalizations. Why isn't the governor through DHS shutting indoor dining and in person schooling down for 2-3 weeks. I know the Republicans took some of her powers, but the Michigan DHS issued the last orders. She suggested shutting down, but very few are agreeing to it.

How much worse does it have to get until we do something?

She got all the flak she could handle last time. There was even an attempt to kidnap/maybe kill her. She is trying to avoid further anger from the QAnon folks.

enjoys living - and dying - like this. I feel so bad for the conscientious people of Michigan. The knuckle dragging faction of Michigan voters is dictating the entire state's response to this devastating outbreak.

Executive Order 2020-42 (COVID-19) - Rescinded
EXECUTIVE ORDER 2020-42 FAQs

EXECUTIVE ORDER

No. 2020-42

Temporary requirement to suspend activities that

are not necessary to sustain or protect life

Rescission of Executive Order 2020-21

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory disease that can result in serious illness or death. It is caused by a new strain of coronavirus not previously identified in humans and easily spread from person to person. There is currently no approved vaccine or antiviral treatment for this disease.

On March 10, 2020, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services identified the first two presumptive-positive cases of COVID-19 in Michigan. On that same day, I issued Executive Order 2020-4. This order declared a state of emergency across the state of Michigan under section 1 of article 5 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963, the Emergency Management Act, 1976 PA 390, as amended, MCL 30.401 et seq., and the Emergency Powers of the Governor Act of 1945, 1945 PA 302, as amended, MCL 10.31 et seq.

The fact of the matter is most people have decided that COVID is over and they’re not going to obey any more lockdowns. Whitmer recognizes this which is why she isn’t going to order a lockdown but rather rely on vaccinations to flatten the curve.

It’s a tragic situation but it is what it is.

People won't obey it. Everyone around here seems to be gearing up for the summer. Quite a few people are already traveling. Restaurants and bars are busy again. The past few weekends have had fairly good weather and many had bbq's. There have been two houses on my street with a ton of people over every weekend since mid March it seems. My wife and I see similar things with friends and family posting pics of themselves back out with friends. For a lot of people here, the pandemic is over. More rules and lockdowns would probably be ignored and the police, who many barely enforced things last year, will probably ignore it as well.

MI has the UK variant which transmits really easily. Also, MI opened up too soon . Not a good combo.

I believe she put the ball in RepubliQuans court, hoping they would help in a bipartisan effort. There is no enforcement plan without Sheriffs and local police. They have been totally absent.

Go to a bar in Michigan. Maskless people shouting in each others' faces in a loud setting. Every time I stop at my office, more people have the virus. The 30 somethings who think they're invincible, the 40 something trumpanzees who thought the virus was no big deal-all have it now. There is one more guy that I wish would get it. A real big mouth. Sorry, not sorry.

Oh and who in their right mind gets on a plane and goes to Florida right now? A state that is under-reporting cases, refusing to take ANY precautions, encouraging people to hang all over each other. I know 2 people that brought it back from FL and they didn't get counted in FL. They got counted in MI.

I'm so glad I'm fully vaxxed but still scared s-less. People are being so fucking stupid. At this point, I don't know if shutting things down would even work.
