First Lady Jill Biden arrives at Grand Rapids airport ahead of visit to COVID-19 vaccine clinic
GRAND RAPIDS, MI First Lady Jill Biden arrived at Gerald R. Ford International Airport on Thursday ahead of her visit to a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Grand Rapids Community College.
U.S. Rep. Peter Meijer, who represents the Congressional District that covers Grand Rapids, greeted her at the tarmac and will join her at the clinic. Michigan State Police and Kent County Sheriffs deputies escorted Biden by motorcade to GRCC after her arrival.
The First Ladys visit is part of the Biden administrations effort to highlight partnerships between retail pharmacy providers and community colleges. In April, GRCC provided COVID-19 vaccines to students, employees and their families in partnership with the Urban Church Center and Spectrum Health. Nursing students at the college have also helped administer shots at clinics in West Michigan.
The Biden administration set a goal of having 70% of adults with at least the first dose before July 4, a total of 160 million Americans. A state-run dashboard shows about 58% of Michigan residents over the age of 16 have received at least one dose as of May 26.
