Fraternity suspended after Michigan State student's death

EAST LANSING, MI – The Pi Alpha Phi national organization has suspended the Michigan State University chapter of the fraternity in the wake of a student death.

The student, identified as Phat Nguyen, died at an off-campus residence in the 400 block of Stoddard Avenue on Nov. 20. Four individuals had been found passed out, and Nguyen was found unresponsive and not breathing.

The East Lansing Police Department is investigating the incident and an autopsy was ordered by the Ingham County Medical Examiner.

Cause of death won’t be determined until toxicology results are completed in six to eight weeks, but a preliminary investigation indicated “that alcohol consumption could play a factor,” according to a news release issued by the city.
