Two more candidates enter Michigan's U.S. Senate race
The race to replace U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow has gained two more entrants, as Republican Michael Hoover and former Democratic state Rep. Leslie Love declared candidacies.
As a state legislator, Loves district in the House covered both Detroit and Redford Township. While the city is predominantly Black, Redford is majority white, and Love argued the diversity leaves her well-suited to represent the entirety of the state.
I have lived a Michigan experience. Ive been to the Tulip Festival, Ive been to Walpole Island for the Native American festival, Love said in an interview. Ive done these things because Ive lived and embrace the culture of Michigan.
She was the first Black woman, appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, to serve on Michigans Natural Resources Commission. A hunter and novice angler, she said her love of the outdoors broadens her appeal.
