Michigan elections panel OKs recall petition against Democratic state rep, rejects others

(Detroit Free Press) Michigan's elections panel approved a recall petition targeting Democratic state Rep. Sharon MacDonell, of Troy, on Monday, clearing the path to gather signatures for the effort. But recall petitions targeting five other Democratic state representatives faltered.

The Board of State Canvassers rejected recall petitions against state Reps. Noah Arbit, of West Bloomfield, Kelly Breen, of Novi, Betsy Coffia, of Traverse City, Jennifer Conlin, of Ann Arbor Township, and Denise Mentzer, of Mount Clemens. The rejections of the Arbit, Coffia and Conlin petitions marked the second time the board declined to approve them.

As the Democratic House caucus hopes to retain its majority in next year's elections, the recall petitions primarily targeted Democrats who hail from swing districts. ..............(more)
