Two Minneapolis City Council members who supported the failed policing charter amendment have lost their seats.
The city declared based on unofficial results that Phillipe Cunningham of the Fourth Ward lost to opponent LaTrisha Vetaw. Challenger Emily Koski was declared the unofficial winner over Jeremy Schroeder in the 11th Ward.
In races that haven't been called yet, Jeremiah Ellison of the Fifth Ward was locked in a tight race with multiple challengers. Steve Fletcher of the Third Ward lagged behind top challenger Michael Rainville.
Meanwhile, two others who had pledged to "end" the police department, Council Vice President Andrea Jenkins of the Eighth Ward and Council Member Andrew Johnson, were re-elected, according to unofficial results.

(1,364 posts)We elected Joe Biden to fill judgeships to last a lifetime, this will help correct and prevent many misjustices. He is doing an awesome job.

The incumbent Democrats who lost all lost to other Democrats. Another incumbent, a Green Party member, lost to a candidate who belongs to the Democratic Socialists.
The make up of the incoming Minneapolis City Council is 12 Democrats, 1 Democratic-Socialist and the mayor is also a Democrat.
Not a bad night for the DFL in the Mill City.

(8,894 posts)"Black Lives Matter TOO" and "Defund the Police" certainly should have been "Demilitarize the Police" or "Retrain the Police". I don't think anyone really wants the police to go away.
