With 2.3% of the votes left outstanding, the gap between them is 2.5%. Samuelson needs more than 100% of the remaining votes.

An incumbent DFLer in the 5th should run away with the primary.

I'm in the 3rd so I don't have a say in this race but, if I did, I would have gone with Samuels.

question everything

6. I suppose - do not want to denigrate anyone - that the easiest thing is to follow the endorsements

For several days I studied what the candidates for County Attorney and Sheriff said going back and forth. In the end both winners are the ones endorsed. I think that it even helped Omar that she was endorsed.

Oh well. For me an endorsement is a turnoff but this is me..

7. I don't always follow endorsements

and have been known to vote for he unendorsed candidate in the primary. I usually keep that quiet as I'm always on the Senate District Central Committee we're not supposed to obviously support unendorsed candidates.

I mentioned it this time because sometimes it does matter to people and I was a delegate at the the Hennepin County convention when Moriarty & DeWitt were endorsed. I had been backing Moriarty before the convention but didn't make up mind on the Sheriff's race until that day. I found DeWitt very impressive (the 2 guys who ran against her were not at the convention).

The county attorney's race will be interesting given that Dimick can't stand Moriarty, I'm not sure if the animus runs quite as strongly from Mary back to Martha, but we shall see.

8. Prior to yesterday, I kept hearing that McCollum had such a "strong" primary opponent.

In the end McCollum walked off with about 85% of the vote.

Meanwhile, the Omar/Samuels race was treated as no contest at all but Omar only got just a hair over 50%.

Based on her remark last night: " 'Our victory is a testament to how much our district believes in (me)" she apparently doesn't get that her narrow win might be reason to reconnect with her district and figure out how she can strengthen her relationship with it.
