Pope County deputy shot and killed identified, another deputy and officer injured by gunfire

A Pope County deputy was shot and killed while responding to a domestic call around 7:30 Saturday night in Cyrus. Two others, a Starbuck police officer and another Pope County deputy, were injured by gunfire in the same incident, according to a post from the Pope County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers from the Glenwood and Starbuck Police Departments and deputies from the Pope County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the home.

Authorities say there was “an exchange of gunfire” between officers and a man at the home during an attempted arrest. The Pope County deputy was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

The other deputy was treated and released for his injuries. The Starbuck officer was reportedly injured but did not go to the hospital.

The man who opened fire on officers was struck and killed.

UPDATE: Multiple law enforcement agencies have identified the Pope County deputy shot and killed Saturday night. Deputy Josh Owen, who was on duty during his birthday Saturday, died after being taken to the hospital in critical condition.

And cities who have to pay enormous amounts of money over shootings. Dosen't make sense. Of course, the gun control thing makes no sense.

Meanwhile bingo fundraisers where you can choose between a designer purse or gun for your prize are getting more popular across the state. Because more guns are just what we need.

This is the story of how shotguns and Kate Spade saved a town festival.

When tight finances and slipping attendance and sponsorship threatened the long-standing Glencoe Days in Glencoe, Minn., about 50 miles west of the Twin Cities, organizers came up with an idea: bingo.

But instead of cash, a full scorecard could win a lucky player a Michael Kors purse, a Coach wallet, a Remington rifle or a SIG Sauer pistol.

Myranda VanDamme, president of the Glencoe Area Chamber of Commerce and co-chair of the Glencoe Days Committee, landed on the unusual pairing after googling, "How can I make a lot of money in a short period of time?"

She found that a few nonprofit organizations were raising money by offering fancy purses worth hundreds of dollars as bingo prizes. To get men in the door, they were also adding guns as a prize option.
