How fortunate I am to be living in Minnesota at this time. A truly progressive place to be.Source: NBC News
When Minnesota Democrats won back the majority in the state Senate last fall, they achieved the dream: a trifecta of control across the Legislature and the governor's office.
They weren't the only ones. Democrats did the same in Maryland, Massachusetts and Michigan, whereas Republicans failed to nab any new trifecta in the 2022 elections.
But it's Minnesota that's attracting attention as a laboratory for how to effectively use that power to achieve progressive policy priorities.

(6,352 posts)The difference is that our neighbors in Wisconsin were targeted by the Koch brothers, whose candidates got a foot in the door and then gerrymandered their way to right-wing minority rule.

(19,058 posts)All that gerrymandering is going to come back and bite them in the ass at some time when those in Wisconsin, Iowa, the Dakotas see their populations drop because of the restrictions being enacted that goes against the very definitions of FREEDOM and a DEMOCRATIC ideology as to how government should be. When they see their very lives
What we here in Minnesota can do for those in those states is for better political organization to bring about progressive change. If Minnesota can be the shining star of the North, I will gladly join in that effort.

(506 posts)I do kid DH about how much I'm loving living in the People's Republic of Minnesota.
But we're codifying our rights - the same 'States Rights' that the fascists are now going to try to take away because we're using them to different ends (not the ends they meant, dammit!). We have a budget to actually work on infrastructure and create better jobs in better fields. Pot is going to be treated a lot more like its cousin, alcohol; the laws won't favor the recreational preferences of the melanin-deficient.
Just imagine...Education! Libraries! Art! Health Care! Bridges that don't fall down! It's like we actually have a right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
And if we keep voting, we can keep it.
