BY RICHARD EBERWEIN 3/25/24
While arguing against a proposal for safe storage requirements for firearms, Minnesota state Sen. Warren Limmer (R-Maple Grove) contended that rural citizens need guns readily available to deal with cows.
You even walk too close to a cow, and itll take you down and trample you into dust, Limmer said. Fumbling around with a lock while a cow or a bull or any other animal is going after your daughter or your son you cant fumble around with a key or try and find the lockbox or put your thumb on a biometric key of some sort in your home while the danger is outside. This bill puts those individuals in even more danger.
If passed, the proposal known as Senate File 4312 would establish standards throughout the state of Minnesota for the safe storage of firearms and outline criminal penalties for failing to meet them. After Limmers cow concern was heard, the proposal passed the Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety on party lines and was then recommended to the Finance Committee.
When Republicans controlled the Minnesota state Senate as recently as 2022, Limmer served as the chair of the Judiciary Committee, where he routinely refused to hear new bills about gun safety.

(940 posts)plus those injured. They can be dangerous to work around but I'm not sure access to guns is the answer.

Safe firearm storage laws concern firearms not in use; theres no requirement that a gun be locked while in possession of a responsible adult.

(6,338 posts)We had cows around since before I was born. My father's farm had them. His father's farm had them as well. So did every farming friend I had. I have been around then since I was able to walk. Not outside the fence, looking at them like a bunch of zoo specimens, but in the pasture, petting them (those that allowed this), herding them and feeding them. I have one thing to say to this guy.
What in the ever-loving hell are you talking about, man?
Like any animal, they are what they are. They are also pretty used to humans, so they either move away or come over for some attention. If they are being aggressive, they usually are not ninja in their manners or attack methods. Get real, Congressperson, you are just bought by someone(s) and they don't want anything that might eat into their profits.
Nothing is more profitable in our modern society than fear. Nothing.
