Ruby-throated Hummingbirds start their southward migration once their breeding season ends. Its believed that they can sense the changes in the reduced number of daylight hours, flowers, and insects, which triggers their instinct to leave Minnesota.
This means that most hummingbirds leave Minnesota by the end of August or early September. By mid-September, almost all birds are gone, and they wont return again until spring.
I just bought a new 10 lb bag of sugar
guess Ill have it for next year. I have noticed the feeders arnt as busy as even a few days ago. Dang
.gonna miss the little beauties.

Since hummingbirds dont get minerals from nectar they also eat dirt to make up their diet.
