Judge orders ballot corrections in Minnesota's Swift County, reinstating 11 candidates

BENSON — Eleven candidates who filed for elections within Swift County but whose affidavits had to be rejected due to official error will now be reinstated to the general election ballot.

On Friday, Sept. 6, Judge Allison Whalen signed orders granting two petitions from Swift County to correct affidavits of candidacy for Benson School Board and for mayor and City Council in Kerkhoven.

The Swift County election administrator is ordered to print and distribute new ballots for the Nov. 5 general election.

The correction was deemed necessary after local officials, in consultation with the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office, discovered the initial affidavits filed by 11 candidates should have been rejected for missing or incorrect contact information.
