Spring Grove Township to hold local election with no official candidates on ballot

SPRING GROVE TOWNSHIP, Minn. (WKBT) -- Voters in Spring Grove Township will head to the polls Tuesday for a local election with no candidates listed on the ballot.

Town supervisor and clerk positions are both up for election, but the township will rely entirely on write-in votes to fill these roles after no candidates filed to run during the official filing period.

"In December, there's filing notice that goes in the paper. In January, people can file for office, but nobody ever does," said Michael Whiste, Spring Grove Township clerk-treasurer.

According to Whiste, it's normal for Spring Grove to have an election without candidates. The township has historically experienced low voter turnout in local elections, with residents typically re-electing the same officials year after year.
