Engineers Who Designed New I-35W Bridge also Designed Collapsed Bridge in Florida

The engineering company that designed a pedestrian bridge that collapsed in Miami Thursday also designed the current Interstate 35W bridge.

A PowerPoint designed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation detailing the new I-35W bridge project listed FIGG Bridge Group as the designer.

Last year, MCM, the contractors involved in the pedestrian bridge project at Florida International University, announced a partnership with FIGG Bridge Group for the project.

Flatiron-Mason Joint Venture was the contractor for the new I-35W bridge project.

According to its website, FIGG Bridge Group also designed the Wabasha Freedom Bridge in St. Paul

Of course, it has been many years, and the bridge had to withstand major changes in temp.

I do remember working on them in the winter of 2008, I think, and was worrying about mixing cement at sub zero temp...
