After 6 rounds of voting, Tim Walz decided not to seek the endorsement. He will be continuing his campaign, focusing on the Republican. Tim is not the kind of person to go negative on a fellow Democrat.

Tim is a dear friend of mine. I believe him to be the strongest of the field in his knowledge of the facts, a debate style that lets no one off the hook, who has remained humble since being elected to Congress in 2006, and the most fit to go head to head with Tim Pawlenty.

Walz, on the other hand, has been elected and re-elected by rural, perhaps leaning Republican district. Didn't Trump carry it? Thus, I trust Walz to appeal better to all Minnesotans.

I was surprised about Lori Swanson, somehow I missed that she even had a challenger.

Passion is not enough. One has to be effective and, yes, has the wisdom to select the battles. She has done a good job. If she runs in the primary she will get my vote.

It really bugs me that DFL chair, Martin, claims that running in the primary is "running against the party." No, he is objecting to "we, the people" selecting the candidates.

I hope that if Walz and Pawlenty win their primaries, that this will be the beginning of the death knell of the "abiding by the party endorsements." And to think that in many states many cannot participate in the primaries because of the blocks that the Republicans throw, like voter ID and shortening number of days for early voting.

Fortunately the Republicans also have primaries this year so cross over won't be an issue. The other downside to them is voter turnout is usually very low and, like general elections, are apt to go to to the candidate who could afford the slickest ad campaign.

And she has my vote. She opted not to seek the endorsement, though she led handily in the first round of voting.

BTW, at this time, I would vote for her in the primary as well. I don't know anything about her challenger and I think Lori has done a great job.

Or is could be that she has been MNAG for 12 years now and is going for a 4th term.

From this article, it sounds like Pelikan is going negative against her. She has been a fantastic AG in my opinion. She'll be getting my vote in the primary.

but now she and Nolan have thrown a wrench in the governor's race.

The worst of it is, there were several good candidates interested in the AG race who dropped out when Lori decided she'd run for that position again. I've always liked her but I'm not happy with the stunt she pulled today.

When we first moved here, and Ramstad ruled the 3rd, I had no idea who was the Democratic candidate until election day and, of course, had no idea who that person was.

Yes, primaries are expensive, but when you appeal to a wider audience you will get more money - I hope.

Warren Spannaus defeated the last one in 1970 and since then we have had a long line of exception AGs.

I sure hope we're not about to find out how much damage one of today's Republicans can do in that position.

it's just that she wasn't liberal enough for them.

Do you know anything about Pelikan? I've heard from people who were at the convention that he has potential but they worry about his current lack of experience but no one seems to know much about him. Asking because I want to know about him, not being snarky.

I was being snarky. What I know about him is mostly what's available online and from his supporters. I was not impressed enough to think we needed a change.
