Not a sport fan but: Gophers stun No. 4 Penn State 31-26

Minnesota moved to 9-0 behind big performances from Tanner Morgan and Rashod Bateman.

Even the WSJ wrote about it

College Football’s Powers: Ohio State, Alabama, LSU...Minnesota?

The Minnesota Golden Gophers football team is 8-0. If that’s a foreign phrase, it’s because the last time it happened was before Pearl Harbor.

But 10 weeks into the 2019 season, AP-ranked No. 13 Minnesota is one of the seven remaining unbeaten schools. On Saturday the Gophers host undefeated, fifth-ranked Penn State in what is perhaps the program’s most important game in the last half-century.

Minnesota, which claims seven national titles, has chronically underachieved since its last one in 1960. The Gophers haven’t won a Big Ten Conference title in 52 years and have gone through coaches faster than Sweet Martha’s cookies at the Minnesota State Fair.

Enter P.J. Fleck, the third-year, 38-year-old coach who sprints the sideline before games and takes a flying leap into a mosh pit of players in the locker room after them.

As an Iowa fan I welcome a strong Minnesota team. That rivalry was always fun.

My kids used to live in the cities and they loved Fleck.

I am old enough to remember the Forest Evashevski (Iowa) vs. Murray Warmath (Minn.) days. Would love to see some battles like those days again.

Would love to see an unbeaten Gopher team in Indy against the big bad Buckeyes. (FWIW - gawd I hate OSU)

That was a great game today.
