Drivers' union complains of Metro Transit tactics as contract vote nears

ST. LOUIS — Metro Transit’s main employee union on Friday accused management of trying to intimidate the workforce by holding misleading meetings about a proposed contract offer before a Tuesday vote of the membership.

The continued labor discord at Metro comes as the agency prepares for its Monday rollout of a massive revamping of Missouri bus routes.

Reggie Howard, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 788, said union leaders are urging the 1,800 workers covered to reject what Metro says is its “best and final offer.”

“They’ve scheduled small meetings at the different locations talking to our members,” Howard said. “That’s interfering with our duties.”
