Related: About this forumSell Montana To Canada To Ease National Debt: Petition
A petition calling Montana "useless" and full of beavers suggest it be sold to Canada for $1 trillion to ease the national debt. The national debt has hit a new milestone, topping $22 trillion for the first time. One way to bring it down, according to a cheeky online petition, is to sell Montana to Canada for $1 trillion. The petition calls Montana "useless."
Change.org user Ian Hammond, who started the petition, suggested that one way to convince Canada to take Montana off our hands is "just tell them it has beavers or something." It had received about 5,000 signatures by mid-afternoon Friday.
Most seemed to take it in the spirit it was (probably) intended. Some Montanans even embraced the idea.
"I'm Montanan and hoping to join Canada without the moving costs," user C.J. Williams wrote on the petition site. "Let's do this. Please adopt us."

(11,543 posts)Really? There is no exports except coal, and way too many guns to regulate. A silly idea.

(743 posts)Theres more to it than coal. Ag exports aplenty (cattle, wheat), acres upon miles of public lands, great skiing, and a more progressive/populist streak than we get credit for. Were closer to being the next Colorado than the next North Dakota. Would love to join Canada though

(11,543 posts)I realize there is more than "clean coal", that is the export being left along the railroad tracks all across my state of Washington. I loved fly fishing there, but the statistics are condemning. Lotsa MAGAts.
BTW, right now I would like to go to Canada.

(24,017 posts)Its not happening overnight but is is happening. Folks are starting to realize that coal will kill us and that protecting our environment and expanding recreational opportunities in ecotourism are the key to the future. I would like Canada's health care but Im happy to be a Montanan. We arent going anywhere.
