Reform for Nebraskas Future coalition wants to 'rebalance' state's tax structure

LINCOLN — A new coalition calling for property tax reductions jumped into a brewing legislative battle over taxes Tuesday.

Leaders of Reform for Nebraska’s Future announced the group’s formation Tuesday, one day before state lawmakers gather in Lincoln to kick off their 2017 session.

“Nebraska has talked about this problem for far too long,” said Mark Fahleson, coalition chairman. “It is time to fix this problem once and for all.”

He said the coalition, which includes agricultural, business and homeowner representatives, wants to “rebalance” the state tax structure so that each of the three major tax types provides about one-third of tax revenues.
