Thanks to Berkshire's success, Warren Buffett is giving away a fortune that just keeps growing

Warren Buffett’s plan to give away his fortune has been only partly successful.

True, he is fulfilling his 2006 pledge to make annual donations of his Berkshire Hathaway Inc. stock to four charitable foundations. The total value of the shares at the time they were given is $23.95 billion.

But over those same years the value of his remaining shares has gained $28.3 billion because the price per share has nearly tripled.

The latest Forbes magazine ranking of the world’s richest people showed Buffett’s $77 billion at No. 2, behind friend and business associate Bill Gates’ $86 billion.
