Good plan for former college campus

More than a few Northeast and North Central Nebraskans have strong ties to Dana College in Blair, even though it doesn’t even exist anymore.

They surely were disappointed when the college — a small, Lutheran liberal arts institution — closed in 2010 after an accreditation body refused to approve its sale to for-profit investors, leaving more than 500 students without a school and dozens of professors without jobs. The college also had $11 million in debt.

Ever since then, interest remained in what might happen to the campus and buildings in Blair.

It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride as Midland University in Fremont, for example, at one time indicated its desire to expand to the Dana campus. But then those plans fell through.
