Former mayoral candidate Heath Mello will serve as chief lobbyist for University of Nebraska

Heath Mello, who ran unsuccessfully for Omaha mayor, will serve as chief lobbyist for the University of Nebraska system.

Mello has been appointed NU’s associate vice president of university affairs and director of state relations, NU President Hank Bounds announced Wednesday.

He will succeed Ron Withem, who retired this year. Mello, a Democrat, will be paid $165,000.

A couple of months ago, Mello took over as chief operating officer for the Holland Children’s Institute and Holland Children’s Movement.
