Governor candidate Bob Krist criticizes Gov. Ricketts for cutting NU funding

LINCOLN — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bob Krist criticized the Republican incumbent Tuesday for cutting state support of the University of Nebraska.

He said the cuts backed by Gov. Pete Ricketts have “led to steep tuition increases and cuts to academic programs,” particularly during the past two years.

“These devastating cuts threatened to change the momentum of the university for years to come,” Krist said. “We can and must do better for our kids and the state.”

Krist, a state senator from Omaha, said the blow to the university system could have been even worse if state lawmakers had passed the amount of cuts that Ricketts originally proposed.
