Ricketts, Krist point fingers as final governor debate collapses
Plans for a second debate between Gov. Pete Ricketts and Democratic challenger Bob Krist appeared to collapse Tuesday, with both sides blaming the other for failure to reach agreement on terms governing the Sept. 21 event.
"Krist campaign cancels Wayne debate," the Ricketts campaign declared in a news release faulting Krist for failing to agree on a meeting date to settle unresolved issues, including designation of a TV media partner or partners for the event.
"Governor Ricketts backing out of Wayne State College debate," the Krist campaign declared in its own statement.
"The actions of (the) Ricketts campaign since the Wayne Area Chamber of Commerce secured Nebraska Educational Telecommunications (NET) as a debate partner are the actions of a campaign who had no intention of following through with this debate," Krist campaign communications director Dan Parsons said.
