Amid booming fireworks sales, one national chain with three New Hampshire stores has been ordered to stop advertising in Massachusetts a state where fireworks are banned.
The Massachusetts Attorney Generals Office sent a cease-and-desist letter to Phantom Fireworks on Wednesday threatening to take legal action against the company, which has stores in Hinsdale, Londonderry and Seabrook.
The letter comes as fireworks complaints soar in Massachusetts and in some New Hampshire communities, including Hampton, where police reported a 3,125% increase in complaints this June compared to last year despite a town ordinance prohibiting fireworks.
Authorities accuse Phantom Fireworks of violating Massachusetts law by mailing advertisements to residences across the Bay State with discount coupons and highlighting the proximity of its Londonderry and Seabrook stores to the Boston area and Hinsdale to Springfield, Mass.

(403 posts)Massachusetts has no right to tell an NH company they can't mail to MA residents.
This is posturing and will be slapped down if it goes to court. Phantom Fireworks is not a large company and the MA AG is betting that they won't have the resources to fight it.
Her complaint should be with the MA residents who purchase the fireworks LEGALLY in NH then transport them ILLEGALLY back into the Bay state and set them off.
I lived in Nashua, NH for over 20 years and it was simply a fact that MA residents flocked across the state line to dodge sales tax (MA 6-8%, NH 0%), buy cheap alcohol and cigarettes (15-20% less), and of course fireworks.
Even politicians,
