State hospital patient triggers breach of HHS data with personal information

The personal information of 15,000 state Department of Health and Human Services clients was hacked, with some posted on social media four days before the Nov. 8 election.

State officials discovered the breach and said the online information was taken down within 24 hours.

The breached data includes names, addresses, social security numbers and Medicaid identification numbers of clients who received state services before November 2015.

This state announcement on Tuesday came 53 days after the personal information posting on social media. Federal law requires entities to report these hacks within 60 days.
