State Democrats file campaign finance complaint against Manchester Mayor Gatsas

CONCORD — The state Democratic Party has filed an election law complaint against Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas, alleging the mayor spent approximately $80,000 on his recent primary campaign for governor that was restricted for use in the general election.

The mayor was out of the country on vacation and not available for comment.

Gatsas never made it to the general election because he lost the Republican primary for governor to Gov. Chris Sununu, so the money collected for the general election should have been contributed to charity or used for some other non-election purpose outlined in state law, according to the complaint.

It was filed on March 1 with the attorney general by state Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley. It also alleges that Gatsas accepted campaign contributions over the maximum of $1,000 per person in the primary and $1,000 per person in the general election.
