Cinco de Mayo parties lead to 32 arrests in Durham

DURHAM — Vandalism, public intoxication and ambulance rides marked Cinco de Mayo here Friday as 32 people were taken into custody, according to law enforcement officials.

University of New Hampshire police said the vandalism included broken windows and torn down flag poles on campus.

UNH Police Chief Paul Dean said officers arrested 17 people Friday — 11 of those arrested were not students of the university.

Dean suspects classes at other colleges and universities end sooner than at UNH, and because the Durham campus is still open, it became a destination for partygoers.
