Ewing police bust 11 off-campus college parties in 3 weeks

EWING -- For years, year-round Ewing residents have clashed with their College of New Jersey student neighbors, complaining to police about loud late-night music, empty cups littering lawns and sidewalks and knocked over mailboxes.

Students partying in off-campus housing and the calls to police and summonses that follow are by no means new. But in recent weeks, police crackdown on college parties has become more publicized since it began sharing its blotter online.

Since March 22, officers have shut down at least 11 parties and issued dozens of summonses for underage drinking, noise violations, littering and public urination.

Sgt. Karl Bartkowski, whose Community Response Unit handles off-campus issues, says summonses increase between August and May, but that the beginning and end of the school year tend to be the worst.
