69-year-old woman takes plea in $438K theft, spares husband, daughter jail
MOUNT HOLLY -- A 69-year-old woman pleaded guilty Monday to stealing $438,000 from her employer over 10 years in a plea agreement that spares jail time for her husband and daughter, who also had been charged in the case, the Burlington County Prosecutor said.
Sarah A. Coon, 69, of Buckingham Drive in Southampton, took the deal in exchange for a recommendation of not more than five years in jail and charges against her husband Leonard Coon, 75 and their daughter, Tara Charyk, 44, of Tabernacle to be dropped, the prosecutor said.
The investigation revealed that Coon transferred funds belonging to Paul Davis Restoration to her personal credit card accounts and accounts of her husband and daughter over a 10-year period ending in 2014. The theft was discovered after the company became suspicious and hired an outside accountant to review its books.
News reports in 2016 when she was charged said Coons may have embezzled up to $925,000.
