Joint venture: New Jersey bill could allow pot deliveries right to your door

Garden State residents soon might be getting their marijuana orders delivered directly to their homes! The New Jersey bill would make it legal for businesses with pot retail licenses to transport cannabis products to customers.

N.J. Gov. Phil Murphy supports weed deliveries. Currently, only California, Nevada and Oregon have similar statutes.

“We typically don’t talk about legislation while they’re getting baked,” quipped Murphy. “We’re not ruling anything out. We want to get it right.”For those cannabis connoisseurs who choose to spark up on the spot after purchase, the bill would allow pot premises to offer consumption spaces separate from the dispensaries.

Another key component of the proposed legislation is ensuring that at least one quarter of pot business licenses belong to veterans, women and minorities. State Sen. Nicholas Scutari believes that dispensaries should be created in areas with high unemployment. As currently written, the bill states that towns with a high unemployment rate — in the top 10% — would be considered an impact zone. Of those zones, 25% of all licenses would be allotted.
